“Aviation Justice Express" - Los Angeles Stop

Educational forum on Sat. Oct. 15, one day prior to Sun. Oct 16 protest of Santa Monica Airport.

LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCILMAN BILL ROSENDAHL TO JOIN RESIDENTS OF LOS ANGELES AND SANTA MONICA AT BOTH THE TIMELY AND UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL FORUM AND PROTEST

Los Angeles, CA.  – Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP) will host an “Educational Forum” focusing on the accomplishments of the successful campaign to stop a third runway expansion at London’s Heathrow Airport. The forum will be held Saturday evening, October 15, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church located at 11555 National Boulevard, 90064 in West Los Angeles. British environmental organizers John Stewart and Dan Glass will share, via Skype, the story of one of the most important climate victories of the past decade. They will explain how an unlikely coalition of local residents, environmentalists, and fiscal conservatives stopped plans for a third runway at London Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport.

Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, whose district includes Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), as well as neighborhoods that are being affected by noise, air pollution and safety concerns from Santa Monica Airport (SMO), will join residents from both Los Angeles and Santa Monica at both public gatherings. LAX neighboring residents are very concerned with LAX expansion plans. Alliance for a Regional Solution to Airport Congestion (ARSAC) President Denny Schneider says, “I find it fascinating that folks in Europe are looking to improve overall transportation by looking at better, cleaner alternatives to short-distance travel.”

The two events are being sponsored by CRAAP. Cofounder and Director, Martin Rubin says, “This is an opportunity to learn from our neighbors across the pond. I read John Stewart’s book, Victory Against All The Odds. Our local efforts to address community concerns about airport impacts will surely gain from an understanding of their hard-fought battle. I strongly urge all to attend both events.”
