Art Parties and Wine: Sounds Like a Venice Weekend

Here are some things to keep you busy this weekend, April 15 - 17.

Welcome, weekend!

It looks to be a nice one in Venice on this third (!) weekend in April – and it's about time we got some heat! The forecast is calling for blue skies all weekend, with highs nearing 80 on Saturday.

After everyone has finished their taxes (due on Friday!), get out and enjoy the beachy weather, maybe do a little gardening, and certainly take in some warmer sunsets than we've been watching. Here are some additional things to keep you occupied for the next few days.

We rarely focus our attentions here at Venice Patch outside the neighborhood's borders, but on Friday there is a special event in Santa Monica that is pulling our focus away. The National Children's Chorus and the Apple Store at the Third Street Promenade are presenting "," an interactive concert featuring music from Mozart, The Sound of Music, Glee, and The Beatles, among others. We're giving the show a shout-out because Venice's Sam Bindschadler, 11, will be one of the performers. Sam has been with the Chorus for five years. This year, the Revere Middle School 6th grader joined the Scholarsand became a Conducting Fellow. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Back in Venice, at Beyond Baroque. will read from their works Sacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California and  The Great Bay: Chronicles of the Collapse, respectively. Free for members. Admission, $7. Students, seniors, and children, $5. 7:30 p.m.

Over at 57 Market St., there will be a closing party for The Art of Chase and Friends. If you haven't checked out the show yet, get over there! If you haven't partied with those kids yet... Yeah, get over there. Sure to be a great time, and the art is awesome.

Aproppos to the weather, is featuring rosé at this weekend's tasting. Stop by Friday night from 5 until close, Saturday from 1 p.m. to close, or Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. to try three featured wines for $10.

Beyond Baroque is hosting a film festival on Saturday. From 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., a series of shorts will be played for the Love Unlimited Film Festival and Art Exhibition. Check for the full schedule. All shows are free!

At Altered Space Gallery, there will be a reception for Boris Bally for his new show, "De Sign." The gallery is promising "a fistful of surprises." Check it out! Party goes from 6 - 9 Saturday night.

On Sunday, do the world a good turn and stop by the (The Tertiary Education Fund for South Africa). There will be food, drinks, music, live performances, and silent auction. $50, adults only.

Enjoy yourselves, enjoy the sunshine, stay safe, and, as always, if you have other events you want Venice Patch to include, throw 'em on our calendar.
