Bank of Venice Opens with Plans for Another Restaurant in the Works

Venice has a new restaurant to add to its offerings with the opening of the Bank of Venice.

The restaurant, which officially opened on Friday, is helmed by the owners of the Venice Ale House, Tom Elliott and Spoon Singh. They were interested in opening a second location in the area, according to General Manager Megan Davis.

"The opportunity presented itself,” Davis said. “We were looking to expand. The cool thing is it was the original Bank of Venice in 1905 which is how we got the name."

Bank of Venice is now considered the "sister pub" to Venice Ale House and features a similar menu, including the popular Wise Coffee, but with more comfort food, meatloaf and the popular fish tacos among them, as well as specialties created by chef Jason Feehrer, according to Davis.

"Our fish is amazing," Davis said. "People really love it."

One of the first things the staff did at the new restaurant was to get rid of a deep fryer that was already on site, according to Davis who is also a nutritionist and a former personal chef.

"We do everything local and organic and cook really clean," Davis said. "We don’t deep fry. All of our food is organic and local. We are very, very keen on just educating people about clean eating."

The Bank of Venice, similar to Venice Ale House, also offers craft beer, wine and soju cocktails.  While both restaurants are in tourist areas, Davis said they still enjoy catering to the locals.

A third restaurant, Fork in the Road, will open in about a month at 2420 Main Street in Santa Monica, according to Davis. That restaurant will focus on more high-end offerings with a "fresh farm, Mediterranean vibe" and a full bar, according to Davis.

Bank of Venice, which is located at 80 Windward Ave., is open from noon until midnight, Sundays through Thursdays and from noon until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
