Drop, Cover and Hold On: The Great California ShakeOut

The drill had Angelenos ducking for cover at 10:20 a.m. Thursday.

The Great California ShakeOut drill happened at 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. KABC reported about 8.5 million California residents participated this year.

The drill was an effort to encourage Californians to practice protecting themselves in the event of a major earthquake. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said it's important to react before "strong shaking knocks you down—or drops something on you."

Angelenos jumped under their desks and found safe places in their homes Thursday morning. Did you participate? Tell us in the comments section!
