First Friday Brings Warm Weather

Happy First Friday, Venice!

Abbot Kinney's monthly celebration is again upon us this weekend, and it looks to be the warmest in a while, so walk on over and check out the shops, the food (and, yes, the food trucks), and the bars, all while mingling with your Venice neighbors. Fun fact: Brand new will be offering a 10 percent discount all night.

The good weather is forcast to continue through the weekend, so bust out your shorts and hit the boardwalk. Whether you're walking, driving, skating or biking through Venice, though, bring your patience. The beach crowd is likely to be thick. 

Saturday, check out the 10th Annual Mardi Gras Parade on the boardwalk. The parade goes on at noon, and from 2 - 6 p.m. there will be an after party at the Venice Bistro, on the boardwalk, just south of Rose Avenue.

It's going to be a busy day on the boardwalk, since the National Skateboard Association is also throwing down tomorrow, with another in their Venice AM Series. Cash prizes for amateur skaters! If you want to participate, registration is at 10 a.m. Just in it for the viewing? The competition kicks off at noon and will run all afternoon. Not sure what it's about? should explain it.

If you're more into meditating then Mardi Gras-ing there will be another Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga class off Mothers Beach. For more on that, check out – and the incredible photos. These people are for real! Downward dog gets into position at 11 a.m.

Sunday is expected to be a little cooler, but it will be a good day to check out some of the galleries in town, like , or at SPARC.  If you're a member of the Venice Church of Christ, don't forget that you are still through the end of the month, as renovations are completed.
