Know It Now: California Does Beer and Venice Gets Scored

News and notes for Wednesday, Aug. 24.

We're No. 1!!

California has been named the No. 1 beer state in the union by finance website The Street. On average, Californians each drank 18.4 gallons of the hoppy goodness in 2010.

Of course, we in Venice are no strangers to the trend, welcoming two tap-heavy bars, and , in the past year. And soon to be added to our lineup is Wurstekuche, which will inhabit the old Air-Conditioned Supperclub location on Lincoln with another long list of brews.

The Street also gave a more specific shout-out to Venice on Tuesday in a piece titled, "Weekends Really Work in LA's Silicon Beach." Yeah, yeah, the title doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but the basic point—that it's awesome to live and work here, and tech companies  know it—remains pretty valid. Also, gets a shout-out in the article, so we like that.

Venice Patch did a roundup of , but stay tuned because Wednesday at 10 a.m. the exit exam scores for high schools around the state, including Venice High, will be released by the California Department of Education. Find out how our students did overall, in comparison to the rest of the state, and broken down by socioeconomic factors. (This item probably should have come with a nerd alert. Meh).
