LA Magazine Food Event Features Local Chef

Brendan Collins, of Mar Vista's Waterloo & City was among the celebrity chefs featured at The Food Event, hosted by Los Angeles Magazine in the Santa Monica Mountains this past weekend.

If you're a foodie by any stretch of the imagination, you count down the days to Los Angeles Magazine's Food Event like a kid marks the days until his or her birthday.

The sixth annual Food Event was held on Oct. 23 at Saddlerock Ranch, which is located in the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu. The ranch is home to award-winning wine, exotic animals and plenty of space to welcome local restaurants, sommeliers and celebrity chefs ready to heat things up in the demo kitchen.

LA Magazine estimated over 2,500 hungry Angelenos flocked to the 42 food stations and 33 beverage stations for a taste of LA's finest this year.

's Brendan Collins was just one of the celebrity chefs on hand at the foodie extravaganza.

Hollywood's Cleo Restaurant served up lamb shawarma and The Foundry on Melrose grilled up a toasted sandwich dripping with cheese and tomatoes. Westside Tavern had a long line waiting for braised short rib sliders with a horseradish sauce, while Pasadena's The Royce served a delicate dish of Kobe beef drizzled with squid ink. Westlake Village's Onyx popped out crispy ahi tuna tacos, ribs and noodles.

On the sweeter side, a blood orange and chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich from Culver City's Coolhaus was crucial due to the 90-degree heat. In the ring battling it out for the best cupcakes was Pacific Palisades' own serving Chambord-infused jelly-drizzed cupcakes.

Of course there were many wineries, from the Central Coast to Argentina, along with vodka, beer and tequila stations. Needless to say no one left hungry, or thirsty.

Until next year, bon appetite!
