Masters in the Chapel Kicks off the Season

Venice has music and more for the first weekend in October.

Welcome to October!

Saturday will be a good day for free stuff to do. Check out on the boardwalk starting at 10 a.m. There will be lots of free activities for youngsters, as well as a teenage battle of the bands competition and celebrity guests.

More in the kids category: There will be at the Venice library at 4 p.m.

If neither of those things interest your children, consider going to the "Whale of a Sale" yard sale to benefit Walgrove Avenue Elementary on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Morningside and Walgrove avenues. Kids will be entertained by face-painting and hair feathers, while grown-ups can browse the goods.

Saturday night, the chapel at the First Lutheran Church of Venice will once again ring out. Masters in the Chapel begins the 2011-2012 season with . The event is free and open to all. The music begins at 8 p.m. and goes to 10 p.m.

On Sunday, for a slightly different crowd, you can check out . Starting at 8 p.m., there will be live music, as well as resident DJs and a visual show.

There is also a on Sunday. Just because summer's over, doesn't mean you can't go play outside.
