Electricity was restored early Friday morning for 2,300 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in Venice who lost power overnight, officials said.
The outage occurred about 9:28 p.m. due to equipment failure in the 2200 block of Lincoln Boulevard that caused a flash of sparks and downed power lines, a spokeswoman with the LADWP said Friday. The utility earlier said that a transformer fire occurred, but there was no fire only the sparks. The reason for the equipment failure was not known.
Electricity was restored at 2:58 a.m., the spokeswoman said.
Power was out in the vicinity of Lincoln and Venice boulevards where flares lit up the intersection as police blocked traffic while crews worked on repairing the outage.
