Week in Review: Abolition of Redevelopment Agencies Upheld, Venice High’s Marks Named MVP and Mar Vista Community Council Seeks Nominees.

This week the California Supreme Court ruled that the state had the right to abolish redevelopment agencies, a move it made to help balance the budget last fall. Venice High School’s Gabriel Marks was named Western League Football MVP and the Mar Vista Community Council is seeking nominations for an open seat. The ruling from the California Supreme Court upheld a state law that abolishes redevelopment agencies and struck down a second piece of legislation that allowed the agencies to pay to stay alive

•  Venice High School's Marks Named Western League Football MVP

The Los Angeles City Section football coaches have announced their All-City team and Venice High School's has been named defensive player of the year in Division I.

• MVCC Invites Nominations for At-Large Vacancy

The Mar Vista Community Council is seeking to fill an open seat for an At-Large vacancy, created by the . Olson resigned from the council last month in part over a disagreement over how to fill another vacancy on the board.

• City Offers Free Christmas Tree Recycling

The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works wants residents to recycle their Christmas trees. Curbside collection is available for any tree as long as all decorative ornaments are removed. If the tree is too large to cut up for the green waste bin, just put the tree next to the bin on your scheduled recycling pick-up day.

• Girl Scouts Do Good in the Local Community

Local troops team up to help needy families and children. Scouts in Mar Vista have been busy this holiday season working with other area troops to bring holiday cheer to people in need.
