The G2 Gallery in Venice will display Ansel Adams’ “Portfolio Four: What Majestic Word” on Tuesday and will hold an opening reception on Saturday.

What Majestic Word is comprised of 15 original silver gelatin prints, including Vernal Falls in Yosemite and Mt. McKinley National Park. Adams created this portfolio in honor of his friend Russell Varian, a fellow conservationist who died in 1959, four years before the portfolio’s 1963 release. Adams took the photographs between 1943 and 1963.

G2 Gallery acquired the 34th copy of the limited 260 portfolios, 250 of which were for sale.

“It’s one of our most exciting acquisitions in recent years. The singular nature and significance inherent in every Ansel Adams piece makes this beautiful collection all the more incredible to view,” said G2 Gallery Curator Jolene Hanson.

The collection’s value is estimated at between $50,000 and $70,000, according to Christie’s auction house.

The exhibit will start Tuesday and run until March 3. On Saturday, G2 Gallery will host an opening reception from 6:30 - 9 p.m. Admission to the event is $5 and includes live music, wine, hors d’oeuvres and complimentary valet parking. Please RSVP to rsvp@theg2gallery.com. G2 Gallery is located at 1503 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
