Mar Vista Patch’s guide to Valentine’s Day shopping close to home.


With Valentine’s Day right around the corner it’s time to think about what you are getting for your honey. Luckily, we’ve got answers for where to get fun and unique gifts locally.

American Flowers
What: American Flowers has high quality 2-3 foot long stem roses with prices “too good to print.” The store has hundreds of arrangements for Valentine’s Day with different combinations of flowers for any budget.

Why: Everyone loves a delicious dessert and nothing says “I love you” better than something sweet and fresh.

What: Everything you need to make a home-made treat for your sweetie yourself. From heart-shaped bake-ware to tools, ingredients, cake decorating supplies, and cook books. Gloria’s will get you cooking. Or sign up you and your Valentine for a cake or candy making class at Gloria’s as a unique gift. Spend time together learning to make delicious treats for anytime of year.
Why: It’s a little more work, but doing it yourself means you can tell your Valentine you made their gift with love.

What: Soaps in every imaginable scent, especially for Valentine’s Day, you might try: “Chocolate Makes Me Thorny” or “Jabon de Mi Corazon”, at $6.95 a bar. You can also get a package of 10 assorted heart-shaped soaps for $32 or the R-r-r-romance Big Bath Gift Box including four big bars of soap, a soothing “Good Rub Skin Polish” an “Oil Body Slather”, a large natural farmed sea sponge and a small  heart soap for $84.
Why: Walk in the door of this neighborhood emporium of handmade all-natural soaps and you will be transported with the smells of lavender, vanilla, cinnamon and more. Take home some of that good stuff to your honey and share the love.

Why: Honey for your honey is sure to please for Valentine’s Day.
