Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution Endorsements for the May 21, 2013 Los Angeles election in press release form.

ENDORSEMENTS for the MAY 21, 2013 ELECTION

  1. Los Angeles Mayor: ERIC GARCETTI
  2. Los Angeles City Attorney: MIKE FEUER
GARCETTI'S STAND ON LAX IS KEY TO CRAAP ENDORSEMENT
  1. Los Angeles, CA – " The candidates' understanding and vision for the future of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is a really good litmus test in deciding who will better serve the interests of Los Angeles as the City's next Mayor. This issue has been festering around for many years at the Council level as well as in the courts. It is an issue that both candidates should now have formed their views about." said Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP) Director Martin Rubin.
Mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti has voted in favor of modernizing LAX without the unnecessary movement of the north-side runway. Garcetti's vote puts him in the camp of longtime LAX activists who want essential upgrades to LAX without unnecessary encroachments into and on the airport's impacted communities earning the endorsement of the Alliance for a Regional Solution to Airport Congestion (ARSAC) and District 11 Council member elect Mike Bonin. Garcetti also has the Sierra Club endorsement.
Garcetti's opponent, Wendy Greuel, has yet to announce her position regarding LAX.
When President of the City Council, Garcetti had been a supporter of the efforts by Councilman Bill Rosendahl and CRAAP to address the impacts of Santa Monica Airport (SMO) on the surrounding Los Angeles communities of Venice, Mar Vista, and West Los Angeles.
"Eric's sensitivity and willingness to include community input reminds me of Bill Rosendahl. With Eric as mayor and with Mike Bonin on the Council, efforts to address the critical health and safety issues surrounding SMO will strengthen", said Rubin.

MIKE FEUER SUGGESTS REAL PATHS TO ACTION REGARDING SANTA MONICA AIRPORT'S IMPACTS ON LOS ANGELES

  • At the April 27, 2013 Venice Neighborhood Council forum on Santa Monica Airport, both Carmen Trutanich and Mike Feuer, candidates for Los Angeles City Attorney, spoke and answered questions regarding the concerns of Los Angeles residents from Venice, Mar Vista, and other West Los Angeles neighborhoods affected by Santa Monica Airport's (SMO) operations.
As Los Angeles City Attorney, Trutanich has met with representatives of Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP) as well as other groups regarding the health and safety concerns. He heard our requests for help from Los Angeles as we felt Los Angeles residents' concerns were not being given due consideration by the City of Santa Monica, owner and operator of SMO. Councilman Bill Rosendahl, who asked for his help as well, was instrumental in arranging the meeting with CRAAP.
"I have been very disappointed in the attention we got from the City Attorney, given this is an issue that concerns the health and safety of many thousands of Westside Los Angeles residents", said CRAAP Director Martin Rubin. "Citing budget constraints is not an acceptable reason for such an important issue."
At the Venice forum, Trutanich argued how LAX made it difficult to pursue action since Los Angeles would have to answer to the same arguments. Mike Feuer, on the other hand, offered several possible actionable routes that could be pursued. Feuer is endorsed by Bill Rosendahl and Council member elect Mike Bonin who is eager to continue the work of Rosendahl regarding SMO. Feuer also has the Sierra Club endorsement.
"We need a City Attorney who believes we have options and is willing to pursue them." Rubin says.
