UPDATED: Palms Apartment Fire Kills One

It took 17 minutes to knock down the blaze.

A woman was found dead inside a Palms apartment where a fire broke out this afternoon.

The blaze in a single unit of a two-story apartment complex at 3463 S. Clarington Ave. was reported at 1:54 p.m., according to Cody Weireter of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Forty firefighters responded and knocked down the fire in 17 minutes, Weireter said.

The woman, who was about 60 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

It was the 12th fire-related fatality in Los Angeles since the start of the year.
