Security Guard for Medical Marijuana Dispensary Shoots, Kills Robbery Suspect

The shooting may have occurred at or near a medical marijuana dispensary.

A security guard at a medical marijuana clinic near Los Angeles International Airport shot and killed one of two robbery suspects today, a police spokeswoman said.

The fatal shooting on Century Boulevard near Concourse Way was reported about 12:15 p.m. outside Nature's Cure Inc., according to Los Angeles police Officer Liliana Preciado.

The dead man, whose name was withheld, was in his 30s, she said. He collapsed near a hotel.

"Two men entered the clinic and then opened fire on the security guard," Preciado said. "The guard returned fire and hit one of the men in the abdomen. He died at the scene."

The other suspect fled in a dark-colored 7 series BMW, she said. The suspect who got away was described as a black male in his early 30s, last seen in a brown cap, beige shirt and green pants, according to Preciado.

No information was made available about how much money or pot may have been taken.

The shooting was likely caught on video. It happened in a hotel-dotted area just east of the airport, and Century Boulevard was temporarily closed La Cienega Boulevard and Concourse Way.
