Suspects in Murder of Youth Minister Are Steps Closer to Trial Date

The date for a pretrial conference was set on Thursday.

A pretrial conference date has been set for three suspects in the murder of a Compton youth minister last year in Venice.

Hopeton Parsley and Nichole Sheran were both arraigned on Thursday at the Los Angeles Superior Court Airport Courthouse.

The two, along with suspected gang member Kevin Dwayne Green who also made a court appearance on Thursday, face murder charges for the June 2012 shooting death of Oscar Duncan on the 600 block of Santa Clara Avenue.

Duncan, 23, was a youth minister and a former Venice "Youth of the Year" as well as a onetime mentor at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice. He was also a 2006 graduate of Venice High School.

The pretrial conference is scheduled for May 23 at the Los Angeles Superior Court Airport Courthouse.
