Bonin Says Airport Should Be Shut Down

The airport's status as an airport comes into play in 2015 when a contract with the FAA expires.

Correction: This article inadvertently named Bonin as representing Santa Monica. He does not. The Los Angeles District 11 City Council member represents Mar Vista, West Los Angeles, Venice, Playa Vista, Playa del Rey, Del Rey, Westchester, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades.

City Councilman Mike Bonin has posted the following response to Sunday's fatal plane crash at Santa Monica Airport on his Facebook page. Bonin's District 11 does not include Santa Monica but does include Mar Vista, which borders the airport.

"Last night's crash was just 150 feet from nearby homes. Just 150 feet. There have been more than 80 crashes related to this airport since 1982. Meanwhile, nearby residents are suffering from harmful jet fuel emissions. It is time to shut this airport down."
