Villaraigosa’s Cleantech Investment Initiatives Headed to China

OnGreen, in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles will host an investment roadshow, taking 15 US companies to China to promote Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's cleantech initiatives.

The following press released was issued on Oct. 11 by PRWeb.

OnGreen announced today that the company is working with the City of Los Angeles to host a cleantech investment roadshow to promote Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s cleantech initiatives. Approximately fifteen companies will visit Shanghai, Chongqing, and Beijing, matching Chinese corporations and investors with cleantech companies. Potential deals and partnerships aim to deliver innovative solutions in renewable energy, energy efficiency, transportation, waste water treatment and advanced materials. Prominent US government officials will also be giving keynote speeches at the events to promote investment opportunities domestically.

The OnGreen Venture Roadshow will build upon the Mayor’s agenda to accelerate development of, and investment in, clean technologies in Los Angeles through a proactive engagement with key leaders and stakeholders in China.

China is projected to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on clean technology in coming years. A recent report by the conservation group WWF puts current Chinese cleantech investment at $65 billion per year, with a 77% growth rate since 2008--the highest investment amount in the world by a wide margin.

The December event comes on the heels of OnGreen’s first Roadshow in August 2011, in which twenty cleantech companies met with hundreds of investors from the cities of Shanghai, Nanjing Suzhou, and Taicang. As a result of the Roadshow, several companies are now engaged in discussions with potential investors and partners.

“We are delighted and honored to work with the City of Los Angeles to further our goal of connecting innovators, investors and customers from across the fragmented global green economy,” said Nikhil R. Jain, CEO and founder of OnGreen, Inc. “Building transoceanic connections will accelerate cleantech investment and provide the capital that great cleantech companies need to grow their businesses, create jobs and deliver solutions to some of the world’s most important problems.”

The trip to Shanghai also follows OnGreen’s recent partnership with the US Department of Energy to accelerate cleantech innovation by fostering student entrepreneurship through a Western Regional business plan competition. This public-private consortium, called First Look West (FLoW), builds upon the mission of the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to improve energy efficiency and productivity and bring reliable, affordable clean technologies to market.
