Water Restored to Mar Vista Homes After Pipe Break

A 16-inch water main broke, sending water into city streets and homes.

By City News Service

Water service was restored to about 60 homes in the Mar Vista area Sunday after a 16-inch water main broke, a utility official said.

The break on Charnock Road, between Inglewood Boulevard and Barrington Avenue, occurred about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. It was fully repaired by 2:30 p.m. Sunday, said MaryAnne Pierson of the Department of Water and Power.

Crews placed steel plates on sections of street that were damaged to allow traffic through, she said.

The cast iron pipe's old age was likely the cause of the break, Pierson said.
