The best cupcakes can be found at Hotcakes Bakes. The bakery, right on the Del Rey and Mar Vista border, won the contest in both Patches.
This little local bakery won the Food Network's "cupcake wars" in 2009 with their tres leches spicy mango cupcake topped with horchata frosting.
One reviewer on Yelp! said, "I love the tres leches mango, chocolate banana (the cake doesn't taste overwhelmingly banana-candy flavored, unlike a lot of banana confections I've tried- win!), red velvet, strawberry and pistachio."
Another Yelp! reviewer wrote, "had the mocha cupcake which was bursting with rich and bold espresso notes."
