Penmar Golf Course in Venice Turns 50

Venice resident Todd von Hoffman is organizing a special tournament with a "Caddyshack" theme to mark the 50th anniversary of Penmar Municipal Golf Course.

Guess who's turning 50?

Penmar Municipal Golf Course opened in 1962 and the nine-hole course this year celebrates its golden anniversary.

Venice resident Todd von Hoffman said he couldn't let the special anniversary go unnoticed, so he has organized "The Gopher Scramble" golf tournament March 23 at the course. The tournament will have a Bushwood Country Club bent, von Hoffman said, which is a reference to the upscale club in the golf comedy classic "Caddyshack."

The tournament's flier encourages golfers to enter their "fiercesome foursome" and the $45 per player fee will include a "classic carne asada" lunch, awards and raffle prizes sponsored by Danny's Deli, The Galley and other local businesses.

Penmar Golf Course was designed by David Kent and dedicated on March 27, 1962.

Anyone interested in joining the tournament should contact von Hoffmann at 310-948-0031 or at penmar50@gmail.com.

Check out the attached flier for more information on the tournament and view the history poster von Hoffman made for the course coffee shop.
