Best Music Apps

At first, the iPod came out and people quickly took to the idea of having their music digitally stored in their pocket in a clean, sweet-looking device.  Hopefully you dont ever need to repair your iPhone but if you do, we have you covered.  Anyway, eventually those got phased out by our smartphones which allow us the same functionality plus the added phone capability and loads of other applications to boot. If you have an iPhone, its important to know that there’s plenty more music listening options to choose from other than the built-in iTunes Music app. Most are free, and utilize WiFi or your data plan to stream tunes. If you pay a monthly fee, then many of them will allow you to listen offline as well.

  • ·         Pandora is a superb app for streaming music on the go. It holds a consistent data connection and has a massive library to build personalized “radio” stations from. For three dollars a month, you can eliminate the ads that play in between every few songs.
  • ·         Spotify is another popular music app that allows for streaming on the go. Spotify integrates with Facebook and is very “social” friendly. The free membership allows for “Radio” listening which means they’ll build stations for you based on a chosen track, album or artist. However if you pay the few bucks per month for the upgraded membership, then you can download and sync playlists, and listen offline – saving your data plan from getting overused.
  • ·         NPR Music is an excellent free app that incorporates all the music programs that play on your favorite NPR stations. They have a robust live concert catalog, picks from their music critics, and a “First Listen” section that includes full-length albums to stream weeks before they’re released.
  • ·         iHeart Radio – if you find yourself in the category that has a favorite radio station that you love listening to in the car or at home, now you can live stream that exact station from anywhere on your phone. This free app also allows you to listen to any station from across America that’s a part of the Clear Channel family. This means the sky is the limit in terms of local radio options to choose from.
